Indian wedding photographer in Barcelona

Barcelona and the coast around Sitges are a beautiful setting for an Indian wedding: Mediterranean light, modernist houses among the vineyards and plenty of space for the whole family to celebrate.

I photographed Ritika and David’s wedding at Clos la Plana, a celebration that brought together Indian and Catalan traditions. On this page you’ll find their story, their wedding film and everything that can help you if you’re planning an Indian or multicultural wedding near Barcelona.

The getting ready

In Ritika and David’s wedding, the getting ready was one of the moments with the most details. Ritika’s ivory saree with gold embroidery was unfolded, draped and pleated fold by fold, with the women around her helping to get every pleat in place. Then came the jewellery, the earrings, the make-up and, at the end, the bouquet.

In an Indian wedding the getting ready is full of gestures, hands and textures, and it deserves time. I photograph it calmly and discreetly, so that every step is there: from the first fold of the saree to the moment the bride is ready.

The varmala

Before the ceremony, the varmala garlands were waiting in the garden: red roses, white flowers and long strings of pearls. In the ceremony, after the Catalan tradition of giving the bouquet to the bride, Ritika placed her garland on David and David placed his on Ritika, a moment full of joy, with their families and friends cheering around them.

Ritika and David at Clos la Plana

Ritika is from India and David from Catalonia; they met in Germany. Their wedding at Clos la Plana brought both cultures together, and it showed in every detail.

In the garden, the ceremony mixed Catalan and Indian traditions. Guests came from all over the world, many of them in saris and traditional Indian outfits next to suits and dresses, and the celebration in the Clos la Plana restaurant ended on a dance floor full of colour.

The guests and the party

Guests came from all over the world, and many of them wore saris and traditional Indian outfits. Before the ceremony, some of them helped each other drape their saris; at night, all that colour moved to the dance floor of Clos la Plana.

Clos la Plana, five minutes from Sitges

Clos la Plana is a modernist house built in 1913 in Sant Pere de Ribes, five minutes from Sitges, surrounded by around ten hectares of vineyards and olive trees. Civil ceremonies are held outdoors, with the vines and the garden all around. For the celebration there are halls in the villa, a wine cellar room, a glass-walled dining room, a terrace and a marquee, and guests can stay in the house and its annex.

Photographing a multicultural wedding

A multicultural wedding brings two families, several languages and different traditions into the same day. My style is natural and documentary: I step in as little as possible, I don’t force poses and I tell the day as it happens, from the rituals to the dance floor, while taking care of the light, the composition and the details.

I only photograph one wedding per day, and I work all over Catalonia.

Tips

Planning an Indian wedding in Barcelona

  • Plan time for every ritual. Tell me in advance which ceremonies and moments you’ll have, so we can plan the timeline together and make sure nothing is missed.
  • Golden hour portraits. At sunset the light among the vineyards is soft and warm: keep 20 minutes for couple portraits at that time.
  • A venue with room for everyone. Gardens, terraces and indoor halls make a day with many guests and a lot of dancing much easier, and they give great photos.
  • Time for the details. Draping a saree, the jewellery, the garlands: the getting ready is full of moments worth photographing, so leave enough time for it before the ceremony.
